JOB SEARCH – GOVERNMENT GATEWAY STEPS SEPARATELY

  1. Start up the computer (if it is turned off)

    • The first thing you will need to do is press the power button on the main part of the tower or laptop.
    • Press the power button on the monitor if using a pc.
  1. Access the internet

    • Move your cursor with your mouse until it moves over the bottom left corner.
    • This is called the start button, this will bring up a list of all your programs.
    • Now you need to left click the START button in the bottom left corner of your screen
    • click on internet at the top of the list. Your web browser will then open.
  1. Now you are on the internet there are a number of useful job search websites we will go over some of the main ones.

  2. The next thing you need to do is visit the webpage you are looking for.

  3. Go into the address bar and enter gov.uk and then press enter.

  • Type into the address bar  www.gov.uk and press enter this will take you to the site

  • left click on Working, Jobs and pensions

 

  • left click on finding a job

 

  • left click on Find a job with Universal Jobmatch

 

  • If you are already registered with Universal Jobmatch then please sign in now by clicking on Login to Universal Jobmatch.

  • If you are not registered you will have to do so please follow the steps in stage 4 to do this.

Now you are registered and signed in

  • You should now see 3 boxes at the top and your account details in order to search for a job you now need to click into 1 of these boxes

  • First box you will need to enter a desired job title (Plumber, IT, Assistant etc.)

  • Middle box is for keywords or your skills (Typing, general, word, excel) or a job ID

  • 3rd box you will need to enter your postcode, city or county where you would like to work. (HU3 1BX, Hull, Derby, Dubai, East Yorkshire, etc.)

  • Now you need to click the orange search box

  • This will then bring up a list of results based on what you searched

  • Look at the list and when you see a job you like to apply for click on the job title which should be displayed in blue and underlined.

  • Once you are on the job page you can read over the requirements and the skills it is asking for if you like the look of the job and wish to apply you will need to click on the ‘apply’ button unless other information is available on where to apply

  • This will bring you to the CV selection screen.

If you have not already uploaded a CV you will need to do so by clicking “Create a new CV” (If need to create a CV please refer to stage 3)

    • You can save up to 5 CVs, each one tailored to different job targets
    • Click on the CV you wish to use
    • Click apply now
    • This will take you to the page that tells you your application has been successfully sent.

 

  • Click ‘continue’ button

  • You can now search for more jobs

 

Jobsite.co.uk

  • Type into the address bar at the top of the page www.jobsite.co.uk
  • If you are already registered then you will need to sign in via the ‘sign in’ button
  • If you are not registered with jobsite you will need to register (see register with jobsite)
  • Now you can begin your job search
  • Hover your cursor over the job search button
  • you will then see a number of options
  • Choose your preferred option, if you only want to work in Hull chose Jobs by location
  • scroll down to where you see the row of numbers and click on option 7
  • This will bring you to the page of H’s you can then choose Hull from these options (towards the bottom of the 4th column)
  • Now you will see the sector page and you can choose the industry you would like to search in
  • Click on your desired sector and you will see your results
  • If you see a job you would like to apply for or look at in more detail, click on the job title
  • you will then see the job description
  • once you have looked at the details you can apply by clicking the big green apply button
  • this will take you to the job application form for you to fill out
  • Make sure that you tick the authorised for work tick box
  • you can used the stored CV you uploading previously or you can upload a updated version of your CV and click apply now
